Lessons from Building HashiCorp’s Internal Platform
Date & Location
June 26 | 3:40 PM EDT | Room 406.1
The DevOps principles of removing silos between development and operations teams and embracing automation have been part of HashiCorp’s ethos since the company was founded and are fundamental to how we developed many of the company’s products. As HashiCorp scaled, we needed to build systems that would provide development teams with easy access to reusable components, automation, and observability, while at the same time ensuring standards and reducing toil for operations teams—what many now call platform engineering.
In this session, we’ll share the story of our platform tooling—named Heimdall—how it has evolved, and how we use automation and cross-platform integrations (including with Datadog) to create happier and more effective engineers. We'll also talk about the hard parts: influencing change and building adoption, how to scope the process to not make it overwhelming, and how our internal platform team has reinvented itself with a product-focused strategy.
