Hyperscale your Engineers: How the Google Kubernetes Engine Team Increased Autonomy and Reduced Operational Cost

Date & Location

June 25 | 12:00 PM EDT | Room 405.3

We know that reliability is the most important feature of any system, and that human operations are necessary for every production system. But how can we reduce the cost of our operations while also increasing the satisfaction of on-call engineers, especially as the usage of the product grows?

In this talk, Ayelet Sachto will share lessons from Google’s two-year sustainable operations program, which aimed to reduce the cost of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) while their fleet increased—without compromising the reliability of their systems. She will show how improving the partnership with critical dev teams enabled them to reduce 45 percent of the team's unactionable tickets and 40 percent of overall ticket volume. You will learn the importance of fostering cross-team enabling culture, creating clear processes, and how to upskill your organization to achieve operational maturity and improve overall operational health.
