The observability journey often starts with a well-intentioned champion advocating for a new solution, or perhaps with an active team selecting and testing a new monitoring tool. But after several months or longer the initiative stalls, causing teams to wonder, Why are we doing this, again?

Eventually the team or the individual gives up, only to repeat the cycle, leaving the software that users rely on in no better shape as it relates to observability.

In this talk, I’ll explore important steps that teams can take in order to build a solid foundation that can be built upon, increasing the chances of long-term success. The secret to that success is less about technology and more about investing in building a culture of observability.
